Darkroom Resurrects Angel Densetsu OAV From 1996
Darkroom is now streaming the 1996 Angel Densetsu OAV, a classic anime adaptation.
Darkroom has picked up streaming rights to the Angel Densetsu OAV—a two-part adaptation of Norihiro Yagi's manga that originally dropped in September 1996. The platform, a subsidiary of Synergetic Films focused on archival and prestige anime, is now making the nearly three-decade-old series accessible again.
Angel Densetsu follows Seiji Kitano, a high school student with a genuinely kind heart who happens to have the face of a delinquent—a premise that trades on visual comedy and character contrast in ways that still hit. The OAV was a relatively compact take on Yagi's work, distilling the manga's humor into two focused episodes.
For collectors and long-time manga readers who've been waiting to revisit this one without hunting through physical media or lower-res uploads, Darkroom's move signals a broader pattern: niche streaming platforms are increasingly pulling obscure anime from the vault and giving them legitimate homes. It's not a flashy announcement, but it matters for archival purposes and for fans who want legitimate access to work that's been scattered across formats for thirty years.
No word yet on whether this is the full extent of Darkroom's Angel Densetsu plans or if there's more from the catalog coming down the line.
