Red Riding Hood Detective Anime Lands January 2027, Premieres at NYCC
The Red Riding Hood detective anime is set to premiere in January 2027.
Aito Aoyagi's novel Red Riding Hood: A Detective Story is getting the anime treatment, and it's arriving faster than expected. The adaptation will debut in January 2027, with Crunchyroll handling worldwide distribution outside Asia.
The project just cleared its first major hurdle: a trailer and key visual dropped alongside a full cast and crew reveal. The anime will premiere at New York Comic Con on October 9 before its broader release, giving fans a first look at how the detective noir premise translates to screen.
Yume Miyamoto voices Red Riding Hood, the story's lead, while Akira Sekine takes on Pinocchio. Itsurō Kawasaki directs at Benten Film and handles the script adaptation. The production also tapped Takuya Satō, Atsushi Tamaru, Motoko Kumai, Kōtarō Nishiyama, Sakiko Uran, and Ryōko Shiraishi for additional roles.
Pony Canyon is producing. The setup—a detective story built around fairy tale characters—is exactly the kind of genre-bending premise that tends to land well in anime. Whether Kawasaki's direction and the voice cast can nail the tonal balance between mystery and the inherent strangeness of the premise will determine whether this becomes a sleeper hit or a curiosity. January 2027 will tell.
