Wizard Dad Gets Anime: January 2027 Premiere Set
A new anime about a wizard dad and his adopted daughter premieres January 2027.
A light novel about a washed-up wizard raising a cursed girl is getting the anime treatment. Lost My Adventurer's License, but It's Fine Because I Have an Adorable Daughter Now by Manimani Ononata will premiere in January 2027, directed by Yuki Inaba at Studio Palette.
The premise delivers on its title: Douglas, a former legendary wizard, loses his adventurer's license and meets Rabi, a cursed girl. The story pivots away from reclaiming glory toward building something new—a found-family narrative in fantasy wrapping.
Yuki Inaba directs alongside series composition and script supervision. Character designs come from Kaori Yoshikawa, who also serves as Chief Animation Director. Ohshu and Daiki Okuno split the score, a pairing that suggests balance between whimsy and emotional weight.
The source material has circulated since 2017 on Shōsetsuka ni Narō, the Japanese web novel platform where half the industry's best ideas still live. A printed light novel edition illustrated by Fuzichoco launched in August 2018. Fumi Tadaura adapted it into manga in November 2018 on Manga UP!, meaning the story has already proven itself across multiple formats.
Studio Palette isn't a household name, but the team assembled here suggests competence. Inaba's direction and Yoshikawa's character work carry weight. A story about failure and second chances, anchored by an adorable daughter character, lands hard when executed with care. January 2027 is still a ways off, but this one's worth marking down.
