Shinji Mikami Joins D.I.C.E. Hall of Fame

Shinji Mikami, the creative force behind some of gaming's most influential survival horror and action titles, will be inducted into the D.I.C.E. Hall of Fame at the 30th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards on February 18, 2027. The honour recognises a career spanning over three decades, during which Mikami shaped the direction of multiple genres and studios.

Goichi Suda, a close friend and frequent collaborator, will present the award. It's a fitting choice — the two have worked together across projects that have left their mark on gaming culture, and their partnership speaks to the kind of creative relationships that define the industry's most memorable work.

Mikami's influence runs deep. He created Resident Evil, the franchise that essentially defined modern survival horror and remains one of gaming's most enduring properties. Beyond that foundational series, his fingerprints are on Devil May Cry, which revolutionised action combat design, and The Evil Within, a return to survival horror that demonstrated his continued vision for the genre. His work has consistently pushed at the boundaries of what action and horror games could be.

Currently, Mikami serves as Creative Director and CEO of Unbound Inc., a studio that was acquired by Stellar Blade developer Shift Up earlier this year. The acquisition marked a significant moment for his ongoing creative work, positioning him within a larger collaborative structure while maintaining his creative leadership.

The D.I.C.E. Hall of Fame exists to honour individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to interactive entertainment. For Mikami, the induction feels like a natural recognition of someone who didn't just create memorable games, but helped establish the language through which we talk about action and horror in interactive media. It's a moment that acknowledges not just what he's made, but how those games have influenced everyone who came after.
