Capcom's Onimusha: Way of the Sword is arriving on PlayStation 5 on September 4, and the studio has been steadily building momentum around the release with fresh reveals and expanded demo content.

The game casts you as Miyamoto Musashi, the legendary samurai, set against the backdrop of early Edo-period Kyoto. Capcom modeled Musashi's face after Toshiro Mifune, the iconic actor whose samurai films defined the genre for generations—a thoughtful nod that grounds the character in cinema history.

At Gamescom 2026, Capcom unveiled Trailer 6, which showcased the game's intense swordplay and introduced the Oni Awakening feature, a mechanic that appears central to the combat system. The demo has also been updated with meaningful new content: expanded playable areas and a fresh boss encounter against Daidara, giving players a deeper sense of what the full experience will offer.

There's a nice incentive for demo players, too. If you carry over your save data from the demo into the full game, you'll unlock the Kubi Akari Charm—a small reward that acknowledges the time you've already spent with the experience.

On the technical side, Onimusha: Way of the Sword takes full advantage of the PS5's hardware. The game features the console's haptic feedback and adaptive trigger functionalities, which should make sword strikes and defensive maneuvers feel tactile and responsive in ways that matter for a game so focused on melee combat.

With the launch just around the corner, this feels like the right moment to jump into the demo if you haven't already—it's a solid way to get a feel for Musashi's moveset and the world Capcom has built around him.
