EAT-MAN Returns: Third Anime Adaptation Announced with Original Cast

Akihito Yoshitomi's science fiction action manga EAT-MAN is getting a third anime adaptation, titled EAT-MAN The Over Order. The announcement marks a significant return for the franchise nearly three decades after its last series.

Masashi Ebara will reprise his role as protagonist Bolt Crank, the android bounty hunter at the series' core. Yoshitomi himself is involved in scriptwriting and design, ensuring the creator's vision shapes this new iteration. Director Shunji Oga and character designer Satoshi Hirayama round out the core creative team.

This is the third time EAT-MAN has been adapted for animation, following the original 1997 series and a 1998 follow-up. The new anime will feature fresh visuals, with a teaser video already released to announce the project.

The decision to bring Ebara back as Bolt is notable—voice acting continuity across decades-long gaps between adaptations is rare, and it signals confidence in the original performance as definitive. Yoshitomi's direct involvement in the script suggests this won't be a simple remake but a deliberate creative choice to revisit the material with fresh perspective.
