In a recent discussion on the On Film… with Kevin McCarthy podcast, Levy expressed his enthusiasm about Newman's involvement, confirming the partnership while acknowledging Newman's extensive accolades. "You don’t understand. If you ask me to name my favorite scores, five of the top 10 are Tom Newman: Shawshank, Road to Perdition, Nemo, American Beauty. The guy is a maestro," Levy stated.
Vision for the Film's Score
Levy emphasized that the musical identity of the film has been a prime focus as he curated this standalone adventure. He described his ambitious approach to the score:
"I needed a big-hearted movie score from a composer who, like John Williams, doesn’t shy away from themes."
While he aims to capture a classical inspiration, he assured that the score will not reuse existing William’s cues, promising a unique auditory experience.
How It Came Together
Levy shared the story of how he came to partner with Newman, stating, “I called up Tom Newman. You don’t understand, I’m a fan. I said, ‘Hey, it’s Shawn Levy. Would you ever consider…?’ He responded positively after I sent him the script and my vision for the film.”
