Resident Evil Movie Clocks in at 95 Minutes—and Early Crowds Love It
The new Resident Evil movie is 95 minutes of non-stop zombie survival action.
Zack Cregger's Resident Evil adaptation is shaping up to be a lean, mean survival machine. AMC Theaters just confirmed the film runs one hour and 35 minutes, a brisk runtime that apparently aligns perfectly with what test audiences have been saying: this thing doesn't let up.
The movie follows Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, navigating the zombie-infested streets of Raccoon City during the events of Resident Evil 2. Early viewers have called it an "all gas, no brakes" thrill ride, which suggests Cregger isn't interested in padding the story with downtime. That lean approach makes sense for a survival horror film—there's no room to breathe, and that's the whole point.
Cregger has also woven in references to the broader Resident Evil series for fans to hunt for, a nod to the franchise's deep lore that should reward longtime players without alienating newcomers. The September release date is locked in, though tickets aren't yet available for purchase through AMC.
