Square Enix has announced that both Octopath Traveler I and Octopath Traveler II are coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 1st, 2026, marking a meaningful moment for the series as it reaches its eighth anniversary.

Both games will be optimized specifically for the Switch 2's hardware, which should give them a fresh coat of polish as they transition to the new platform. It's a nice way to bring the franchise's distinctive HD-2D visual style—that blend of pixel art and modern lighting that made the original 2018 release stand out—to Nintendo's next generation of players.

Octopath Traveler I introduced that signature look back in 2018, and Octopath Traveler II, which arrived in 2023, built on that foundation with a new setting and cast of characters. Both games offer that turn-based RPG experience the series is known for, so having them both available on Switch 2 from day one gives players a solid entry point into what Square Enix has built here.

It's worth noting that Octopath Traveler 0, an adaptation of the mobile game Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, released in December 2025, so the series has been keeping busy. The Switch 2 releases feel like a natural way to consolidate the mainline titles on the new hardware and give the franchise some momentum heading into 2026.
