Cross-Dressing Gamer Comedy Gets Anime Adaptation in 2027
Niichi's cross-dressing gamer comedy manga is getting an anime adaptation in 2027.
Niichi's manga Sometimes Even Reality Is a Lie! is headed to TV anime in 2027. The series follows Kaoru Terasaki, a gamer forced into an unexpected bind: to meet his in-game friend Nanami Osaka in person, he has to cross-dress. Predictably, chaos and romance ensue.
The manga began life as a dōjinshi in 2018 before graduating to serialization. It wraps with its ninth volume in September 2023, giving the anime team a complete story to work with—a luxury that usually means fewer filler episodes and a cleaner adaptation.
The premise sits comfortably in the sweet spot where anime thrives: high-concept romantic comedy with a gender-play twist that's been done before but rarely with this particular flavor. Whether the adaptation captures Niichi's comedic timing will determine whether this lands as a cult hit or a forgettable seasonal title.
